I use a mixture of methodologies in my teaching. I use a lot of Suzuki-influenced materials, but also stress note-reading as soon as the student is at the language-acquisition stage, usually around 6-7 years old. I tend to adapt my teaching approach to the cues I get from the student; if the material is not understood, I try various ways of making things clearer, through imagery, example or perhaps patterning.

Since I have been homeschooling for over 20 years, I have a lot of ideas about how different learners learn, since in my own family I have children with ADD, learning disabilities, sensory integration issues, Asperger’s and anxiety disorders. These experiences have taught me to listen carefully to the cues the student is giving me as they learn.

I am a process-driven teacher, rather than a product-driven one. By that I mean that I tend to focus more on what takes place during the learning process, rather than pushing the student to acquire a large repertoire.
